Save Your Vision!

Do you spend lots of time at a computer? Here are some easy steps you can take to make sure your computer time doesn't bother your eyes!

• Limit the time you
   continuously use the computer.

   Adopt the 20/20 rule - every 20
minutes look away for 20 seconds.
• Check for glare on the
   screen.
The reflections of
   windows and lights shouldn't
be directly visible when you're in
   front of the monitor.
• Keep blinking! This keeps
    your eyes moist.
Limit computer use
• Reduce the amount of light in the room to match the
   computer screen.
Try a dimmer switch on lights or use
the lowest setting on a three-way bulb.
• Check the monitor's height and distance from your
   eyes.
The center of the screen should be 4 or 5 inches
below eye level. The screen should be about 20 to 28
inches from your eyes. Proper screen position helps
   your neck and back, too!

It's That Sneezy, Sniffly Time of Year

If you're an allergy sufferer, here are some tips to help you reduce contact with outdoor allergens:

• Wear a facemask when working
   outdoors. Choose a mask approved
   by the National Institute for
   Occupational Safety and Health
   (NIOSH). A hat, glasses, gloves,
and a long-sleeve shirt can also
   reduce contact with pollen.
• Ask a member of the family that isn't
allergic to mow and weed flowerbeds.
• Cut grass low - 2 inches. This helps
keep pollen stems out of the wind.
Allergy Season
• Keep the windows in your house closed while mowing
and for a few hours after.
• Plan outdoor activities on cool or cloudy days and in the late
afternoon or evening. Pollen counts tend to be lower then.
• Shower and change clothes when you go back in. Wash
your hair since allergens can be trapped there.
